In 1940, the U. S. Post Office issued a series of five stamps honoring American composers. They included Stephen Foster, John Philip Sousa, Edward MacDowell, Victor Herbert, and Ethelbert Nevin. Overlooked, were African-American composers such as Scott Jopin.
